Architectural home and completed vanishing-edge pool on the steep landscape

Case Study

Engineering a Vanishing-Edge Pool for a Steep, Hard-to-Access Property

Book a Consultation
A pool section being transported across the steep site

The challenge

Steep Terrain.
No Easy Access.

Set into a steeply sloped property surrounded by natural views, the project demanded careful structural loading, transportation, and installation. Instead of simplifying the architecture, MONO AQUA engineered the complete pool system around the property.

01Proprietary lightweight pool system

Maximum Strength.
Minimal Load.

The completed 36′ × 12′ pool weighs approximately 12 tons fully tiled. An equivalent conventionally engineered reinforced-concrete solution, including anticipated hillside support construction, was estimated to approach 200 tons.

≈94%less weight**Project-specific estimate. Structural requirements vary by project.

02Three sections. One seamless pool.

Engineered around access.

Three transportable sections were positioned and structurally integrated on site, then fully tiled in premium porcelain stone tile—becoming one continuous architectural pool.

3 sections transported positioned assembled tiled one pool

04Integrated compensation water tank

The engineering behind the edge.

The compensation water tank was coordinated directly with the pool structure and hydraulic system, providing capacity to collect, manage, and return water moving over the vanishing edge.

05Integrated equipment vault

Technology within the architecture.

Essential pool equipment is consolidated close to the pool, supporting a coordinated hydraulic layout while keeping mechanical infrastructure discreet.

06Mono Cover™

Hidden beneath the bench.

The automatic floating solar cover retracts beneath the integrated pool bench, preserving the architecture while supporting water and energy management.

Up to 95%less evaporation*50–70%potential heating-cost savings*

03Vanishing edge

Designed around the view.

Premium porcelain stone tiles continue throughout the pool, steps, seating, and edge areas, visually connecting the water to the landscape.

07Swim + wellness

One pool. Multiple experiences.

Two professional counter-current swim jets enable continuous training. Three integrated air and hydro massage seats create a space for relaxation and recovery.

The result

The engineering is complex.
The finished result looks effortless.

The site that created the challenge ultimately created the experience: a fully tiled vanishing-edge pool engineered around access, performance, and architecture.
